I’m a day late with this but the challenge for Week 3 is to create a 7 day email series to send to anyone who signs up for the lead magnet.
Well, I thought to myself, I should be able to whip those off in no time.
WRONG (again)!
Part of the challenge in writing these emails is to make them personal, informative and interesting at the same time. Also there is a ‘plan’ of sorts for what you cover in each of the 7 emails.
The overall purpose of these 7 emails is to get your subscribers to know, trust and like you.
That stopped in me my tracks.
I can write informative emails, no problem. This took a while though as the first attempts were as dry as toast.
I can inject humour and tell stories, although not everyone finds them funny.
HOWEVER, I seem to have a problem with the personal part – may be the same issue as with not wanting to put a video out there.
And yet I can yammer on here no problem…. maybe I don’t think anyone will read a blog post but an email is sort of in your face.
For years, I thought I could remain anonymous and just promote other peoples products as an affiliate and not bother to build up a list or put myself out there at all. While I have seen some minor success with this, it just is not sustainable. Too much work over and over and over.
That’s why I took this challenge and it is definitely challenging me!
So, I have the first email written already. The welcome email I think is OK. I am struggling with the remaining 6 but I will complete this challenge as well. I just need to get out of my own way.
If you are sitting there thinking “I do NOT want to use my own name!”, please know that you do NOT have to if there is a compelling reason not to. Write under a pseudonym but still be yourself in your communication with your subscribers. Communicate with them as if you know them personally and are speaking to them in person.
There are some people who believe that personal stuff has no place in business. I do not think that is necessarily true, especially in the online world. We tend to do business with people we have met and have at least spoken to in person or perhaps on the phone. In the online world, that may not be practical or desirable so we have to communicate via email, blog post, social media etc.
If we want people to interact with us and, ultimately, buy something that we are promoting, then we have to let them get to know us.
Anyway, it is back to laying out my email series and then writing them.
Wish me luck!
