Are You Making Affiliate Recommendations in Your Products?
Did you know that if you’re a product creator, even if it is just your free offer to build your list, you can make money indirectly by promoting affiliate products inside them? Well, you can. Plus, it’s another no-brainer place to add offers. After all, if someone buys your product, they’re going to look at it and use it right? Well, most of the time, but it’s just like a transactional page or email message and an obvious place to add affiliate offers.
In Information Products
If you create any type of information product in any form for sale or free download, you can add an affiliate link for any product you mention. So, for example, if your information product is about how to lose weight using a popular low carb diet, you can add your affiliate link to order grass-fed beef through the mail. You don’t have to point out the link, just link to it within the content, then add a resource list at the end (which, by the way, can be a link to your website’s resource list or special list for the product only).
During Webinars
You can even promote products during webinars. All you do is mention them, and then post a link in the chat. You can also offer a downloadable PDF file that states all the resources listed in the webinar to help them remember it and make the purchase if they need the item.
If you post your webinars on YouTube after you’re done with them, you can list all the affiliate products you recommend in the description area of the video. Repurposing paid webinars this way is tricky, but if you edit it creatively, it’ll look like new and help you promote more affiliate products.
Test Your Offers
An important thing to do when you are adding offers to your paid products is to have some restraint. Don’t give them too many options because they may end up confused. Offer them something that helps them further solve their problems.
For example, if you have an information product about “How to Start a Service Provider Business” you may want to add links for software like Basecamp, Acuityscheduling, or other things that help them set up their business. They will appreciate the extra help.
One of the things to get over is the idea that it’s wrong to recommend things that you earn money from. This is not wrong. If you’re honest about whether you personally use it or not, and it’s a real thing that helps them, it’s a good thing to tell your audience about it. Mention in the beginning that there may be some affiliate links and that you may earn money from them if they buy from that link but don’t make too big of a deal about it.
You don’t want your entire product to become an infomercial. The recommendations inside your products should not be necessary to use the product you sold to them, but should instead just be nice additions, or an easy way to ensure they get all the supplies they need to solve their problems that you’re solving with your product.
